Fred E. Ohrn Jr. - 1926-2003 - Virginia

    Fred E. Ohrn Jr., 77, of Virginia, IL died Tuesday evening, Sept. 23, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
    He was born July 24, 1926 in Cass County, the son of Fred E. Sr. and Glenna E. Fox Ohrn. He married Phyllis Ogden and later married
Blanche Reader. He later married Gina Blake on Sept. 8, 1979 in Jerseyville, and she survives.
      He is also survived by a son, Fred W. (wife, Rita) Ohrn of Berthoud, Colo.; two daughters, Connie (husband, Terry) Wellenkamp and Pamela (husband, Randy) Greenwood, both of Virginia; three step-sons, Gregory (wife, Beth) Mundy of Grafton, Christopher (wife, Donna) Mundy, and Bradley (wife, Carol) Mundy, both of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nephews; several cousins; and his former wife, Blanche Ohrn of Virginia. He was preceded in death by one son, Rock E. Ohrn; one sister, Dorothy Mae Sweatman; and his first wife, Phyllis.
    Mr. Ohrn served with the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WW II aboard the USS Puget Sound as a gunner's mate third class in the Pacific Theatre. In recognition of his service, he was awarded the Victory, American Area Campaign, and Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medals. Upon his return to the area, he began farming from 1946 until his death. He was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and attended the Virginia United Methodist Church. He was a long-time board member and former president of Garner Chapel Cemetery. He was a member of the Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau and the Jacksonville Elks Lodge. Well known for his profound sense of humor, he loved the land, every aspect of farming, and spending time beautifying his property.    Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Virginia United Methodist Church with burial in Garner Chapel Cemetery, north of Philadelphia. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the church where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Garner Chapel Cemetery. Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of arrangements.

    Funeral services for Ed Oleson, who died suddenly yesterday morning at his home, 600 West Fifth Street, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Lintner Funeral home in Chandlerville.
    The Rev. R.C. Glose, pastor of the Methodist church.  Beardstown, will conduct the services.  Interment will be in the Chandlerville cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Oleson residence, 600 West Fifth street this afternoon and evening.  The body will be returned to the funeral home at 10 o'clock Sunday morning.
    Mr. Oleson was born March 2, 1874, near Ashland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Oleson.
    He is survived by his wife, Louie; two sons and three daughters.  He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas, who died in 1942.

BEARDSTOWN - Grace Oleson, 86, of Beardstown died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
    She was born May 11, 1914, in Sangamon Valley Township, the daughter of John Edward and Louie Crowell Oleson.
    Miss Oleson graduated from Beardstown High School and was a member of Beardstown Business and Professional Women for several years.  She was formerly employed at the Beardstown Laundry and the Illinois Star newspaper office in Beardstown.
    She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, where she served as treasurer for several years and was a member of Circle 2 and the "As You Like It" club.
    Survivors:  a sister, Ruth Boehs of Chapin; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services:  2 p.m. Friday, First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, the Rev. Sue Bailey officiating.  Burial:  Chandlerville Cemetery.
    Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

BEARDSTOWN -- Helen Louise Oleson, 72, of Beardstown died at 10:55 p.m. Monday at St. Lukes Long Term Care Facility in Beardstown.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown.  Remains will be cremated.  Burial will be in Rankin Memorial Municipal Cemetery in Gastonia, NC.
    Surviving are a daughter, Billie Ruth Reller of Beardstown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, J.C. Parker, Charles Parker and Andy Parker, all of Marian, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Obituary:  Mrs. Louie Oleson, 80, Dies Sunday; Services Tuesday

CHANDLERVILLE (Special)--Mrs. Louie Oleson, 80, 600 W. 5th, Beardstown, died Sunday morning at Schmitt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown.
    She was born Dec. 28, 1885, a daughter of Ralph Crowell and Margaret Pasley Crowell.  She was a member of the Beardstown Methodist Church.
    She married John Edward Oleson who preceded her in death.
    She is survived by:  two sons, Albert of Bethalto and Russell, of Beardstown; three daughters, Margaret Matthews, Beardstown, Grace Oleson, Beardstown and Ruth Burrus, Chapin; three brothers, John Crowell, of Kenney, George Crowell, Chandlerville, and Sam Crowell, of Versailles.
    One sister, Mrs. Jessie Trenter, Manito, also survives along with nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home with the Rev. William Bailey officiating.
    Burial will be in Chandlerville Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home Monday afternoon.

James Oleson Dies Mon. At Hospital

    James Albert Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Olson, was born November 12, 1881 and died Monday, October 21, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, after an illness and surgery. Mr. Olson spent his entire life in this community, having been employed the latter years by Crawford Lumber Company.
    He was married to Miss Stella Cassens, June 15, 1908 and he is survived by one living son from this union, Loran Ernest Olson, of Bluff Springs. His first wife preceded him in death and on August 3, 1913 he was married to Miss Lucinda Cassens, sister of his first wife, who also preceded him in death. There remains from this marriage, one daughter, Miss Florence Alberta Olson, at home.
    Mr. Olson has been a kind father and a good neighbor, and a faithful workman whenever employed.
    Besides the son and daughter mentioned, he also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Williams, of Chandlerville and one brother, John Edward
Olson, of Bluff Springs.
    Services were held Thursday at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Christian Church with Rev. L. Roy Cronkhite officiating. Miss Ruth Peterson sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", accompanied by Miss Iva Lancaster at the organ.
    Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Tallula.
