Third son of Henry and Mary Nebold, was born Oct. 9, 1865, in Beardstown, Ill., and died Feb. 27, 1907, at the Presbyterian hospital, Chicago, Ill. When he was 3 years of age his parents moved to a farm six miles east of his birth place, where he remained until the year 1900, when he removed to Schuyler County, Ill.

On May 19, 1896, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth V. Rahn, daughter of John and Susan Rahn, of Arenzville, Ill. God has blessed this union by bringing into their home four bright children, William Kenneth, Paul H., Robert H., and Mary M., all of whom are living. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death his aged mother, and the brothers and sisters, Henry Nebold and Mrs. Henry Drawve, of Stonington, Ill., Charles Nebold, of Jacksonville, Ill., Mrs. Parker Hammer and Mrs. Henry Reeves, of Beardstown, Ill. Although not a member of any church he was brought up in the Lutheran faith.

Mr. Nebold was a devoted husband and father, a lover of his home and family. Since he has made his home in Schuyler county he has added to his already large circle of friends and acquaintances. As a farmer he was excelled by none, as a business man his word was like his bond. The world is loser when such men are taken away. He will be remembered as one of God's noblemen.

The funeral was held at his home near Ray, at 9 o'clock Saturday morning, March 2, 1907. Also short services were held at the cemetery in Beardstown, where he was buried.

Gwendolyne M. Neumann

   Gwendolyne M. Neumann, 94 years, of Alhambra, Calif and formerly of Arenzville, died Friday morning, April 4, 2003 at Garfield Hospital in Monterey Park, Calif.
   She was born Nov. 24, 1908 in Arenzville; the daughter of Andrew and Annie Cremeans Proudfit. She married the Rev. Kenneth Bruno Neumann Aug. 13, 1924 in Lake Geneva, WI and he preceded in death in Jan. 1972.
   She is survived by two sons, David (wife, Joan) of Carefree, Ariz. and James (wife, Jean) of Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter, Krista (husband, Philip) Latham of Los Angeles, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Neumann; a brother, George Proudfit; and two sisters, Inez Canatsey and Wanda Wessler.
   Mrs. Neumann was a homemaker and teacher, having taught in rural Arenzville and Chicago area schools. She has been a member of several Lutheran churches including St. Peter's Lutheran Church of rural Arenzville, Grace Lutheran Church of Peoria, and Luther Memorial Lutheran Church of Chicago which her husband served as pastor.
   Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs with burial at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Arenzville. Friends may call at the church from 12 noon until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home of Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements.

Newberry, LeRoy - June 8, 1934 - Virginia Gazette
      LeRoy Newberry for more than fifty years a farmer in this county, died at his residence in Springfield, Friday morning at 5:30 o'clock.
      Coroner John P. Knox said apparently an attack of acute indigestion caused his death.
      Mr. Newberry had been a resident of Springfield for the past year. He was 82 years old.
      He was born near Pleasant View, Schuyler county in 1852.
      In May 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Jacobs who survives with the following children: Mrs. D.A. Crwsswhit, Joplin, MO; Mrs. Charles F. Dawson, Mrs. Ethel Smith, Mrs. Hazel Sullivan, all of Springfield, Mrs. Gertrude Fletcher, Hannibal, MO; Roy Newberry, Arenzville; Charles Newberry, Ashland, Borrk Newberry, Springfield; Reuben Newberry of
this city, and Albert Newberry of Quincy. there are also 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
      Funeral services were held in Springfield at 2:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon. The remains were then brought to Virginia for interment in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs.Emma Menckel buried Sunday.

Mrs. Emma Sophia Menckel, age 70 passed away at the home of her daughter in Festus last Thursday, March 9, 1939. Funeral services were conducted Sunday from the Festus Christian Church.Interment followed in the Gamel cemetery. All details were in the hands of Finks.
Mrs. Menckels husband had preceeded her in death some years ago, but she is survived by three daughters, Mrs Bryant Decker, with whom she was making her home, and Mrs.Womack and Mrs.Thorpe, both residing away from here.

Notes: Finks Funeral Home is nolonger in business in Festus, MO. Emma and her husband are buried at the Old Gamel Cemetery but in the new Christian area ontop of the hill.

    Mabel Irene Nottingham, 98, of Virginia, died Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2002 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
    She was born July 4, 1904, in Pleasant Plains, the daughter of John Ludwig and Lena Morgan Noble. She married Alfred Burton Nottingham May 21, 1925, in Springfield, and he preceded in death Aug. 6, 1985.
    She is survived by four granddaughters, Bonnie (husband, Steve) Herrin of Newton, Iowa, and Coni, (husband, Dale) Cox, Kathy, (husband, Tony) Wzientek, and Mary Ann (husband, Ron) Brockhouse, all of Virginia; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna McConnell of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Ann Alexander on March 27, 2002, two sisters, Edith Sanders and Frances Speaker; and four brothers, John, Wilbur, and in infancy Elmer and Earl Noble.
    Mrs. Nottingham attended Pleasant Plains schools and later taught school at the Grand Prairie country school in Sangamon County prior
to her marriage. She later assisted her husband with their farming operation. She was a longtime member of the Peter Cartwright United Methodist Church in Pleasant Plains and more recently joined the Virginia United Methodist Church after moving to the Virginia area. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, and was active in several card clubs.
    Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home of Virginia, with burial at Bethel Cemetery in rural Pleasant Plains. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Virginia Community Day Care Center.
