Mabel F. Abbott - 1903-2003 - Chandlerville

   Mabel F. Abbott, 99 years, of Chandlerville, IL died Sunday morning, March 9, 2003 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL.
   She was born September 9, 1903 in Cass County, the daughter of Arthur Lee and Nancy Ann Harbison Johnson. She married Paul Abbott and he preceded in death in 1970.
   She is survived by a son, William C. "Bill" Beck of Morton; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee Cadamuro; two brothers, Arthur Lee Johnson Jr. and Richard M. Johnson.
   Mrs. Abbott was a graduate of Chandlerville High School and attended Brown's Business College in Peoria. She was a former bookkeeper for the Chandlerville Exchange and a member of the former Chandlerville United Methodist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville with burial in Chandlerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Friday until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to the Chandlerville Cemetery or the Walker Nursing Home Activity Fund.

Oakleigh R. 'Stony' Adkins Jr. 1929-2006 Chandlerville

   Oakleigh R. "Stony" Adkins Jr., 76, of Chandlerville, died Tuesday afternoon May 23, 2006, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   He was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Jacksonville, the son of Oakleigh and Dorothy Cooper Adkins Sr. He married Catherine Maggos on Oct. 16, 1949, in Alton, and she survives.
   He is also survived by one son, Rocky (wife, Becky) of Chandlerville; one daughter, Nancy Adkins of Chandlerville, two grandchildren, Nathan J. and Taylor R. Adkins, both of Chandlerville; and one step-grandson, Andrew (wife, Kim) Wright of Columbia, Mo. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Deborah.
   Mr. Adkins was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville, Mason County Farm Bureau, Chandlerville Legion Post and a commissioner of the Farmer's Drainage District. He farmed his entire life and for several years his farm was used as a test program for the pickup division of Chevrolet. He was a graduate of Western Military Academy, the University of Illinois at Champaign and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with burial at Bethel Cemetery near Chandlerville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund or CAV-Emt's in Virginia.

Pauline E. Alcorn - 1916-2003 - Chandlerville

   Pauline E. Alcorn, 86 years, of rural Petersburg, and formerly of Chandlerville, died Tuesday evening, March 4, 2003 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in rural Petersburg.
   She was born November 12, 1916 in Newmansville, the daughter of Lloyd C. and Hilda Tieman Mathew. She married Virgil T. Alcorn Sept. 29, 1935 in Petersburg, and he preceded her in death Dec. 28, 1992.
   She is survived by two sons, Dale (wife, Judy) of Quincy and Darrel of Pekin, three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Elizabeth (husband, Donald) Smith of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Milton Mathew.
   Mrs. Alcorn was a graduate of Petersburg High School and was employed for a number of years as a secretary at Chandlerville High School. She was a member of Chandlerville Christian Church, Chandlerville Women's Club, Chandlerville American Legion Post #694 Auxiliary, and the Cass County Home Extension.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m.  Saturday at the Chandlerville Christian Church with burial in Chandlerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Chandlerville Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.

Russell Alexander of Arenzville area dies here Monday

    Russell Alexander, 70-year-old retired Arenzville area farmer, died at 6:55 a.m. Monday at Passavant hospital.
    Mr. Alexander was born at Arenzville June 1, 1907, son of James and Alice Dyer Alexander. He married Lucille Harper April 26, 1940. She survives with these children: Bill, Donna Gregory and Robert, all of Arenzville; Alice Toncray of Fall Creek, Ore.; and Sue and Connie, at home. There are ten grandchildren.
    Two sisters, Mabel Wheaton of Jacksonville and Calla Wood of Arenzville, survive.
    The deceased was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home with visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to either the Heart Fund or Cancer Fund.

    Beulah Anderson of Virginia Dies Monday Virginia - Mrs. beulah A. Anderson 60 of 241 S. Cass St., Virginia died
unexpectedly at 12:30 p.m. Monday at her residence.
    She was born Sept. 26, 1910 in Cass County, the daughter of William and Rosa Lewis Gerdes.
    She is survived by her husband, Howard, and children, Richard of   Springfield; Charlene, Lyle, Andrew, Le Roy, George, and Mrs. Joan Fremgen all of Virginia; and Mrs. Mary Gregory of Jacksonville.
    Three step-children, W.E. of Champaign, Robert of Chicago, and Mrs. Helen Smith of Blue Eye, Mo. survive.
    There are 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
    Also surviving are a brother, Alva Gerdes of Chandlerville and a sister Mrs. Bessie Smith of  Bath.
    Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Massie Funeral Home.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the  Rev. William J. Boston officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Wilma Anderson - 1907-2003 - Beardstown

    Wilma Anderson, 95, of Beardstown, died Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 2003, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
    She was born Oct. 7, 1907, in Perry, the daughter of Dennis and Mae Kirgan Gregory. She married Claude Anderson in January 1923 in  Virginia, and he preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1973.
    She is survived by six daughters, Jean Edsall of Danville, Dorothy (husband, James) Krohe of Springfield, Betty (husband, Paul) Chartos of Hammond, Ind., Nancy (husband, Carroll) Lovekamp of Rushville, and Jan Anderson and Sherry (husband, David) Taylor, both of Beardstown;
14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Beaver and Alden Gregory; and two sisters, Viola Fishel and Nola Patterson.
    Mrs. Anderson attended Central School in Beardstown and she was the oldest living member of the Community of Christ in Beardstown. She owned and operated the A&W Drive-In, Sherry Pit Restaurant, and Dairy Bar in Beardstown for a number of years.
    Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Family will meet friends from 5 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Private graveside rites will be held Thursday morning at Beardstown City Cemetery in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested the Community Christ Church in Beardstown.
